Early Learning and Childcare

Children and Youth Services Master Plan

CommUniverCity

Goal

Access to affordable, high-quality early education programs and child care, from birth through school age.

Expected Outcome

All children experience nurturing adults and safe environments that support their optimal physical cognitive, social, and emotional development.

CommUniverCity Helps Children and Youth Engage in Health and Education

CommUniverCity’s projects align with the Early Learning and Child Care priority area by directly connecting elementary-aged children with SJSU students who serve as mentors for early social-emotional and literacy development through programs like SEGWAY, Writing Partners, and relatable, socially relevant interactive performances from Social Issues Theater.

By embedding these structured, relationship-based learning experiences into after-school settings, these projects expand access to early education and help build critical developmental skills.

This creates a safe space for youth to practice embedding these social and emotional skills. SEGWAY promises direct access to supportive, community-based wellness resources for the local youth.
