Students and Community Leaders Gain Insight at CommUniverCity Leadership Training Workshops

By Emily Dairokuno

The CommUniverCity Leadership Training Workshops are a collaboration between

CommUniverCity SJSU and the Alum Rock Santa Clara Street Business Association (ARSCSBA) to provide professional development in leadership skills.

The board of ARSCSBA expressed interest in getting professional support for their business owners, in the best interest of the longevity and health of the businesses in the area.

The workshops are led by Professor Pamela Wells and her BUS 161A students, with a focus on delivering professional development courses to local businesses.

Over 20 SJSU students attended each workshop, with subgroups of the students leading each workshop. These workshops covered topics such as personal leadership styles, motivating others, effective communication, conflict resolution, and realistic goal-setting practices.

Over 30 business owners and community leaders attended the workshops. The community leaders gained insight into methods and practices that could further support their businesses and leadership styles. Many of these local business owners and community leaders expressed their gratitude for the sessions to both CommUniverCity and Professor Wells.

After completion of the three-workshop sequence, all participants earn a certificate of completion, showcasing their commitment to professional growth.

“These local business owners shared valuable experiences that just aren’t taught in class.”
– BUS161A SJSU Student
