This semester Stacy was appointed Interim Chief of Staff to the Office of the SJSU President. Congratulations, Stacy! We also welcomed Stacy as a SJSU representative to CommUniverCity\u2019s <a title=\"Steering Committee\" href=\"http:\/\/cucsj.org\/vi\/about-us\/steeringcommittee\/\">Steering Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In true community spirit and in spite of her very busy agenda in her new role as Chief of Staff, Stacy continues to support <a title=\"Science and Engineering\" href=\"http:\/\/cucsj.org\/vi\/programs\/science-and-engineering\/\"><em>\u1ee8ng d\u1ee5ng K\u1ef9 thu\u1eadt<\/em><\/a>, which, since Fall 2011 has engaged 1,464 Engineering sophomores and juniors to design hands-on engineering workshops for 2,270 elementary -and middle- school children in our downtown neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p>The community engagement project is designed to challenge the college students into synthesizing and applying their engineering knowledge in a way that engages the school children and strengthens their STEM knowledge. Community service projects such as <em>\u1ee8ng d\u1ee5ng K\u1ef9 thu\u1eadt<\/em> also increase the engineering students\u2019 motivation towards using engineering to better society and increase retention and graduation rates, particularly among women and underrepresented groups.<\/p>\n<p>We are very fortunate to have Professor Stacy Gleixner affiliated with CommUniverCity.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; We\u2019d like to give a shout out to Stacy Gleixner, a Professor in Biomedical, Chemical and Materials Engineering who launched Engineering in Action 3 years ago.
