Thursday, September 3, 2015 was a breezy and sunny day. It was also the first SJSU Spartans Football game of the season!<\/span><\/p>\n

This was CommUniverCit\"Servingy’s first ever large-scale partnership with <\/span>SJSU Athletics<\/a>, and we were determined to to have it be a success.\u00a0<\/span>The challenge<\/b>: Invite as many downtown San Jose community members to attend the game as possible. <\/span>The end results:<\/b> More than 1,400<\/strong> residents turned out to watch SJSU defeat the New Hampshire Wildcats.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to one of the attendees, “The SJSU event was great I was able to take 3 people to the game that had never been before… Thank you for a wonderfully set up event.”<\/p>\n

Of the 1,400 residents about 400 were treated to a tailgate celebration that included a meal from <\/span>Estela\u2019s Catering<\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0festival games and a raffle. The partnership even made it to the daily review of an <\/span>national athletic association<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to being able to provide residents with a night out to thank them for their hard work in the community, CommUniverCity was also given the opportunity to have some action on the field as well as the Jumbo-Tron. \u00a0Executive Director and SJSU Professor<\/span> Dayana Salazar<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>District 3 Council Aide Patricia Ceja<\/span><\/a>, \u00a0<\/span>Spartan Keyes <\/span><\/a>Resident Richard Stewart and SJSU\u2019s Interim President <\/span>Martin<\/span><\/a>, representatives from each of CommUniverCity\u2019s partnerships, were all honorary team captains for the coin toss.<\/span><\/p>\n
