King Road Complete Streets

King Road Complete Streets Community Engagement connects San José State University (SJSU) Communication Studies student interns with the City of San José Department of Transportation to support the marketing and promotion of the King Road Complete Streets Plan. The project aims to increase awareness of community planning meetings and create more inclusive opportunities for residents to help shape informed and equitable transportation decisions.

Students develop communication strategies and content designed to reach community members, including groups that may be underrepresented at traditional public meetings. These efforts help ensure that residents who rely on transportation services have opportunities to share their experiences, priorities, and needs.

Through this collaboration, SJSU students apply their communication skills to a real-world community project while gaining practical experience in content creation, audience engagement, and public outreach. Their work supports the City’s efforts to make information about the planning process clear, accessible, and relevant to the diverse communities along the King Road corridor.

King Road Complete Streets Community Engagement strengthens the connection between the university, local government, and residents—encouraging broader participation and helping community voices inform the future of transportation in San José.
