Faculty Corner: Congratulations Stacy Gleixner

We’d like to give a shout out to Stacy Gleixner, a Professor in Biomedical, Chemical and Materials Engineering who launched Engineering in Action 3 years ago. This semester Stacy was appointed Interim Chief of Staff to the Office of the SJSU President. Congratulations, Stacy! We also welcomed Stacy as a SJSU representative to CommUniverCity’s Steering Committee.

In true community spirit and in spite of her very busy agenda in her new role as Chief of Staff, Stacy continues to support Engineering in Action, which, since Fall 2011 has engaged 1,464 Engineering sophomores and juniors to design hands-on engineering workshops for 2,270 elementary -and middle- school children in our downtown neighborhoods.

The community engagement project is designed to challenge the college students into synthesizing and applying their engineering knowledge in a way that engages the school children and strengthens their STEM knowledge. Community service projects such as Engineering in Action also increase the engineering students’ motivation towards using engineering to better society and increase retention and graduation rates, particularly among women and underrepresented groups.

We are very fortunate to have Professor Stacy Gleixner affiliated with CommUniverCity.
